The Best Restaurants in Bodrum

Bodrum eats seriously. From candlelit tables set directly on the water in Gümüşlük to Zuma's polished Palmarina outpost, here are the tables worth the reservation.

Elegantly plated Aegean seafood on a Bodrum restaurant terrace

The Bodrum Table

Bodrum's cuisine is Aegean — olive oil from the surrounding hills, wild herbs and greens (semizotu, radika, deniz börülcesi), grilled octopus, salt-baked sea bass, and the local speciality çökertme kebabı: strips of veal on shoestring potatoes with garlic yoghurt. Meze culture is central — expect 8–12 small plates arriving before the main course.

1. Maçakızı — Türkbükü

The definitive Bodrum lunch. White umbrellas over a pontoon deck, elegantly-plated Aegean cooking, the peninsula's best people-watching. Book the long lunch (arrive 1:30pm, leave at sunset). Around €150–€220 pp with wine. Reserve 5–7 days ahead.

2. Mimoza — Gümüşlük

Candlelit tables set on planks over the water, half-metre from lapping waves. Whole grilled fish selected from the ice display, exceptional meze, and the peninsula's most romantic sunset. Non-negotiable Bodrum reservation. €80–€130 pp.

3. Zuma — Yalıkavak Palmarina

The international arrival that's now firmly local. Same contemporary Japanese menu you know from London and Dubai, executed to the same standard, with a marina-front terrace. €150–€250 pp. Great room, great sound system, opens late.

4. Kocadon — Bodrum Town

Bodrum Town's most polished dining room, in an 18th-century stone house behind the castle. Modern Turkish tasting menus, thoughtful wine list of Anatolian producers. €90–€140 pp. Best restaurant in the old town.

5. Orfoz — Bitez

Cult seafood destination on a rocky outcrop in Bitez. Whole grilled turbot, langoustines, wild sea bass. The chef comes to your table with the day's catch on a tray. €120–€180 pp. Book weeks in advance.

6. Novikov — Yalıkavak Palmarina

Split between Asian and Italian rooms — go for the Asian side. Truffle dumplings, black cod miso, an excellent sushi bar. Late lounge scene builds after 11pm. €130–€200 pp.

7. Sait Restaurant — Gümüşlük

The unpretentious counterpoint to Mimoza. A family-run seafood taverna at the far end of Gümüşlük's beach, where locals actually eat. Simple grilled fish, cold Efes, no attitude. €40–€65 pp.

8. Casita — Türkbükü

Hidden garden restaurant tucked above Türkbükü's marina. Mediterranean menu, tree-covered terrace, a much quieter alternative to the beach-club scene. €80–€120 pp.

Local Favourites Worth Knowing

  • Fener Balık (Gümüşlük) — cheaper waterside seafood alternative to Mimoza.
  • Ali Rıza Usta (Bitez) — legendary köfte joint, cash only.
  • Meyhane 1902 (Bodrum Town) — proper Turkish meyhane experience with raki and live music.
  • Bianca Beach Restaurant (Yalıkavak) — beach club lunch that punches above its weight.

Reservation Reality

From mid-June through mid-September, Bodrum's top tables are booked out. Direct online booking often shows "no availability" when the restaurant is in fact holding tables for regulars, hotels and concierge partners. This is where a Bodrum-based concierge is worth more than any tip: we can usually secure a table at 24–48 hours' notice at places that show "fully booked" for weeks.
